The Gumno

Gardeners often say that it takes five years before a garden becomes visible. It takes considerably longer than that for a garden to mature, sometimes even several decades. To cast, as you will find out throughout the year, demands not only that you understand the object to be made but that you also understand its opposite. To cast is to make in reverse. To make concrete you have to understand timber or whatever material will create the form work and to make a void you have to make the solid first.
